Your visit includes an exciting exhibition, along with walks through the ever-changing sanctuary valley. Step inside the world’s first fully fenced urban wildlife sanctuary, a true haven for rare native species. Here, you might spot the playful kākā, a forest parrot found nowhere else, along with dozens of other unique species.

Throughout the day, free ranger talks offer fascinating insight into some of the sanctuary’s most exciting residents, including kākā, wētā, and tuatara. These talks run four times daily, so there’s always something new to learn.

For an even more unforgettable experience, consider the Night tour. This special nocturnal adventure reveals a whole different side of the sanctuary, as many native species become active after dark.

Visitor Information

Zealandia Karori Wildlife Sanctuary is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please note that the last admissions are accepted one hour before closing.
