Revitalize Your Senses at Glacier Hot Pools New Zealand
Nestled deep within a lush rainforest, Glacier Hot Pools New Zealand serves as a haven of natural tranquility. It offers the perfect way for visitors to unwind and reach a blissful state of pure relaxation. Whether you have spent the day traveling along Te Tai o Poutini (The West Coast) or exploring local attractions, these pools provide a much-needed sanctuary.
The Legend of the Frozen Tears
The story of this location is as beautiful as the water itself. According to the traditions of the Ngāi Tahu (the local Māori Iwi), the waters of Ka Roimata feed the Glacier Hot Pools o Hinehukatere. These waters represent the frozen tears of Hinehukatere, which she shed for her lost love. Legend tells that the gods froze these tears of aroha (love) to form the Franz Josef Glacier. Therefore, when you soak in these waters, you connect with a powerful cultural legacy known as Ka Roimata o Hinehukatere.
A Sanctuary for Body and Spirit
The facility features three inviting main pools and three secluded private pools. As these pools sit within the “bosom of Tāne Mahuta” (Guardian of the Forest), native bush and birdlife completely surround you. This natural setting creates a tranquil space where you can revive your tinana (body), hinengaro (mind), and wairua (spirit).
Secluded Private Pools: A Romantic Oasis
If you seek a more intimate experience, the private pools offer a unique, romantic oasis in the rainforest. The design team set these pools back on the property to ensure the very best in seclusion.
In addition to the peaceful environment, the private pool experience includes several premium features:
-
Exclusive Facilities: Each pool includes its own changing area, and we provide fresh towels for your comfort.
-
Complimentary Access: Your booking also grants you entry into the public pools.
-
Pure Water: Our systems re-filter the fresh glacier water after every single use to ensure the highest quality.
-
Meaningful Names: The local Iwi, Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio, gifted names to these pools: Te Wai Whakahaumanu (The reviving waters), Te Wai Whakawai (The easing waters), and Te Wai Taurima (The tending waters).
Plan Your Visit
You can find this wellness destination on Cron Street in the heart of Franz Josef township. Because the forest canopy fully shelters the facility, you can enjoy the pools all year round. The doors open daily from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and the staff welcomes the last entry at 8:00 pm.
