This Fiordland luxury experience takes in one of the region’s quietest corners, walking the Hollyford Track. It’s a valley that has stayed largely untouched for thousands of years. The trip starts and ends in Queenstown. Two nights bookend the walk itself. One comes before at a Queenstown hotel, one after at Te Anau’s Distinction Hotel, complete with a pre-departure briefing.
The walk covers around 40km over three days. It follows the Hollyford River beneath Mt Tutoko and Mt Madeline, through native beech forest and past ancient podocarp trees. A wilderness jet boat ride down the river and across Lake McKerrow breaks up the walking. The trip finishes with a scenic helicopter flight into Milford Sound. From there, it’s a drive back through the Homer Tunnel to Te Anau and on to Queenstown.

6 Day Fiordland Luxury Experience: Hollyford Track Guided Walk Days
On arrival in Queenstown, meet your shared transfer for the short trip to your hotel, where you’ll spend the first night before the walk begins.
Board the Hollyford private coach for the roughly 2-hour drive from Queenstown to Te Anau. Settle into the Distinction Hotel & Villas before attending a pre-departure briefing at 6:30pm at the Hollyford Valley Walk office, where you’ll meet the rest of your group and cover everything you need to know for the walk ahead, including gear collection.
After breakfast, depart Te Anau by private coach for the Hollyford Valley to begin the walk. Cover 19.5km on foot, following the Hollyford River beneath Fiordland’s two highest peaks, Mt Tutoko and Mt Madeline, through native beech forest and past tumbling waterfalls. Arrive at Ka Tuku Lodge for a hot shower, a 3-course dinner, and a well-earned rest.
Walk to Lake Alabaster, with the option to cross one of Fiordland’s longest swing bridges, covering 15km on foot for the day. Your main pack is transported ahead to Waitai Lodge, leaving you with a light day pack. Board a jet boat down the Hollyford River and across Lake McKerrow, stopping at the historic Jamestown settlement, before walking on through ancient podocarp forest to Waitai Lodge on the West Coast.
Walk the final 5km to Martins Bay Spit, a historic site where Chief Tutoko once guarded access to the Hollyford Valley’s pounamu gathering grounds. After lunch back at Waitai Lodge, board a scenic helicopter flight along the coastline into Milford Sound. From there, a private coach takes you through the Homer Tunnel to Te Anau, with a final stop to collect any stored luggage, before continuing on to your hotel in Queenstown.
Your shared transfer collects you from your hotel and takes you to the airport, where the tour concludes.
