Kia Ora (hello) and welcome to your New Zealand adventure! Your journey begins in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland)—New Zealand’s largest city, home to over 2 million people and nearly 50 volcanoes.
You’re free to arrive at any time today. We encourage you to explore the city: stroll down to the Viaduct for lunch, grab a coffee in Britomart, or browse the shops at Commercial Bay. Check-in at the hotel is available from 3:00 PM. At 6:00 PM, meet your group and Stray guide in the hotel lobby for a welcome dinner (at your own expense) and a chance to get to know your fellow travelers.

We’ll head south to Waitomo, famous for its glowworm-lit limestone caves. Choose between a gentle boat ride under the glowworms or an adventurous abseiling and climbing experience through the caves.
In the evening, we’ll arrive in Rotorua, the geothermal capital of the North Island and a hub for Māori culture. Our hotel features a spa, pool, and unlimited Wi-Fi—a rare treat in New Zealand!

Today is all about the Roto (Māori for “lake”). After breakfast, we’ll pass the Blue and Green Lakes en route to Lake Tarawera, where we’ll take an aqua taxi to Te Rata Bay and its unique Hot Water Beach.

Today’s short drive takes us to the charming village of Franz Josef, with scenery shifting from coastline to dramatic rainforest—another day of jaw-dropping New Zealand landscapes.

Take a shuttle to the trailhead, then hike through native bush and glacial streams to the glacier’s terminal face.
