Full Itinerary

After awakening to the rhythmic sounds of the Tasman Sea outside your window, we begin our eastward journey across the South Island. Our route takes us through increasingly dramatic mountain landscapes as we ascend toward Arthur’s Pass, the highest pass over the Southern Alps.

A highlight of our journey is the remarkable Otira Viaduct—an engineering masterpiece that carries the highway through a previously impassable section of steep, unstable terrain. This cantilevered road provides spectacular views of the towering mountains that surround it.

At Arthur’s Pass National Park, we’ll stretch our legs with a refreshing walk through ancient beech forests. This alpine environment is one of the best places in New Zealand to encounter the kea—the world’s only alpine parrot, known for its curious and mischievous behavior.

Continuing eastward, we descend into the Canterbury High Country where we’ll stop at Kura Tawhiti (Castle Hill). These massive limestone rock formations, sacred to Māori and popular with rock climbers, create an otherworldly landscape worthy of exploration.

Our journey concludes as we cross the Canterbury Plains to reach Christchurch in the late afternoon. We’ll say our farewells with drop-offs at either Christchurch Airport or your city accommodation, bringing your New Zealand adventure to a memorable close.
