Central Otago Region Tourist Information

Central Otago is famous for its wine and is the biggest producer of wine in the southerly region of the world. This historical city in New Zealand is famous for its mountains, weathered rock formations, rivers, and alpine herb fields.

The region is famous for Pinot Noir, a variety of grape used for making wine. The wine produced from this grape type has widely acclaimed popularity all over the world. The structured soil of the region drains easily and is the perfect for wine production. Other famous grape variety includes Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Sauvihnon Blanc, and Chardonnay.

This most inland region of New Zealand was famous for its gold rush. Moreover, you can still find the trails used by the miners winding over the hills. Central Otago is easily accessible from Queenstown and Dunedin airports. One can also easily reach the region from Christchurch, Queenstown, Dunedin, and Invercargill through rail or road. The weather of the region should be fully analyzed before you plan a trip to Central Otago. It is the hottest, driest, and coldest region in the country.
